Know Your Business Know Your Self

By Jane Keightley of giggleberries

The first of eight articles entitled ‘Know Your Business’, which explores how to identify the perfect business to run and is written by entrepreneur and multi business owner James Keightley, who runs his own ecommerce business and business coaching consultancy.

Millions of people around the world are thoroughly dissatisfied with their jobs and aren’t pursuing the authentic careers they are destined to follow or are forced by the credit crunch to consider alternatives, such as working for themselves.

Working for yourself can be one of the most stressful things you can do and yet at the same time it can also be one of the most rewarding, interesting and liberating decisions you can make as there can be nothing better than being your own boss. However, whether it is selling shoe laces, developing the latest gadget or providing the must have service running a business not only takes a special kind of person, it requires you to make sure you choose the most suitable area to work.

Choosing what type of business to run and getting it right at the outset can make the difference between a successful or unsuccessful business, and also the extent to which you find it thoroughly enriching. After all, there is more to life than money and it is worth spending the time making sure you choose to do something that is as ideally suited to you as an individual as possible.

So how exactly do I find the perfect business to run I hear you shout! Simple, and over the course of the following articles I will explain how.

We will be looking at what is possibly one of the most powerful sets of logical approaches to understanding and structuring the things we choose to do in life and how we approach them, including being self employed and running your own business. These are called Logical Levels and we will be using them to explore what your ultimate vision might be for you own business, who you see yourself as when running a business, what beliefs you have about running a business, what capabilities you have to support these, how you desire to behave and in what environment you want to run a business.

We will be exploring each of these six levels and to go through them in detail so you can fully explore how they relate to you and your authentic business in the following articles entitled ‘Know Your Business Know Your?’

By the end of this series of interesting articles you will have a much clearer picture of the business you want to run, where it will be, what it will be doing, what skills and capabilities it will require, what you believe about it, how it fits in with who you are as an individual and what the big picture will look like. If running your own business is something you have always wanted to do then the subsequent articles may be very useful in helping you to identify what it will be and how you are going to go about getting it started.
